Hotel Oasis

At €250 a night, this 2-star hotel was nowhere near worth the price. The room smelled terrible, like stepping back into the 1950s. They left one small bottle of water on the first day and didn't refill it. One night I got back at 4 a.m. and the elevator was broken, so I had to climb four floors. The booking was for five non-refundable nights, made directly on the hotel's website the morning of my flight. I entered my card details and got a confirmation email. Apparently the hotel's outdated system couldn't charge cards directly, so they sent another payment email later, while I was already on the plane. When I arrived at midnight, my room hadn't been held, and I had to find another hotel in the middle of the night. Staff later told me to come back in the morning and offered a better rate as compensation. But when I returned, the manager put the price back to the original rate, €50 more per night and €200 extra in total. He promised free breakfast, but the next morning my room wasn't even on the breakfast list, so I had to sort it out with reception again.

The hotel sits in a fantastic area for walking, close to the tourist attractions. Just be aware of the tourist/resort fee, and that the rooms aren't the best quality. The beds are soft, which is a matter of preference, and if you're a light sleeper, try to avoid a room next to the elevator. You hear it opening and closing constantly. Staff were friendly and responsive. The hotel cafe was okay, and the staff would help warm up food, though reluctantly.

We barely slept the whole night. The room shared a wall with the lift, and we could hear other guests heading to their rooms, the lift machinery, and footsteps from the floor above. Reception weren't helpful, and I don't understand how they were fully booked and couldn't move us when it was off season and I could still book another room. The shower also wouldn't drain properly. A terrible experience.

The people here made the stay feel special from beginning to end. I was celebrating my birthday, and Raul gave me the warmest welcome. They'd even decorated the room with balloons, such a lovely touch. Whenever I saw Raul around the hotel, he was friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Amy in the café was just as kind and helpful, and the breakfast was one of the best I've had. My room was great, clean, and comfortable. I had an exceptional stay at Hotel Oasis and would definitely come back. I'd happily recommend it to anyone visiting Barcelona.
