Safestay Barcelona Gothic

The location was the only good part of this stay. We were two young American women there in late May 2026, and felt completely unwelcome and disrespected. A rude female cleaner repeatedly came into our room, not to clean, and accused us of using an extra bed when we weren't. She yelled and gave us attitude about it several times, and touched our belongings while we were out. She eventually involved a shift manager, opened our door in the morning while other guests were asleep, and showed him the bed. He checked more than once and seemed confused about what she thought we'd done. Still, she had him confront us, and we felt targeted by a baseless accusation. Other guests had belongings on extra beds without being reprimanded the way we were. One non-American girl was even lying in another bed, while we were the ones singled out. I can't say whether it was coincidence, but none of those guests were American. We were also blamed for supposedly ruining a bed for future guests, which we hadn't done. Meanwhile, the bathroom water was burning hot, there were no curtains as advertised, no AC, and my bed had no blanket when I arrived. Being made to wait in the lobby to talk to a shift manager and having staff barge in at 9 a.m. while people slept hardly made the atmosphere better. There was a lot of noise from other guests, and a party staff member even knocked at night to get us to come out and party when we didn't want to. We were told to be quiet while others were loud, which again made us feel targeted despite doing nothing wrong. I've never seen staff behave this way at a travelers lodging. Don't accuse paying customers of things they haven't done if you want to run a successful business. It's an offensive, inhospitable place. If you want to waste your money, stay here. I would give it zero or negative stars if I could.

The location is good, with some amazing cafes and restaurants nearby and a metro stop. The staff weren't consistent, though. We had to wait until 3 to check in, while some pretty girls were allowed in early and I still had to wait. I tried the shower three times over half an hour and couldn't get hot water, so I ended up taking a cold one. The dorm lights also only stay on for three minutes at a time.

I arrived at 4:40 a.m. after my flight was moved to another airport, where I had to take a bus, and the whole trip ended up taking three hours longer than expected. I was exhausted. I'd checked in online because I knew I'd arrive late, but the receptionist said the booking gets erased after 4:00 a.m. and the check-in took even longer. They hadn't told me about the tax of 5,50 per day, either. First they put me in room 204, where someone was already sleeping, and the staff member woke that person to ask about the mix-up. Then he moved me to female room 104, which was full too. They may as well charge you for breathing. Free bag storage is the bare minimum.

A staff booking mistake woke us after midnight. The employee acted as if I was an intruder and suggested I didn't belong in my assigned bed, so I had to prove who I was while half asleep. The error was entirely theirs, but there was no apology or accountability afterward. It was handled very unprofessionally, and I wouldn't feel comfortable staying here again.
