Sir Victor Hotel

The staff were lovely, breakfast was great, and I really enjoyed the rooftop, gym, and spa. The location worked well too, and I’d probably come back now that I know what to expect from the rooms. The room layout takes some getting used to. The toilet and bidet are on one side, while the sink is across the room, and the sliding toilet door gets stuck. The wardrobe is in the shower area, and the fridge is tucked into a cupboard by the toilet. It all feels pretty awkward, though I assume there’s some construction or plumbing reason for it. The rooms and deep orange corridors, with reddish lights and metal ceilings, feel like they belong in a different hotel from the lush reception and restaurant. Definitely not Gaudi, though maybe it’s a distinctive architect I don’t know. I couldn’t turn off the cupboard LEDs, but someone fixed them right away the next day. The phone line was so static that reception couldn’t hear us. Still, the staff were great, and the breakfast, rooftop, gym, spa, and location made for a good stay.

We had a good stay and thought it was good value. The location is fabulous, and our room was comfortable with what we needed. It also had a nice-sized balcony, although it only looked onto the courtyard. The safe didn’t work, and even after we reported it, they couldn’t fix it by the next night. They offered to move us, but packing up after unpacking felt like too much hassle. We didn’t eat at the hotel during our three days, though the bar had a good evening scene. The hotel is well designed and isn’t dirty, but some areas could use a refresh. Replacing the dirty corridor carpet would go a long way.

The team and the location made my stay at Sir Victor Hotel in Barcelona enjoyable. Everyone I dealt with was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I’m American, and I found it useful to remember that cultures differ. People in Barcelona are professional, and treating them respectfully is the best way to get them to open up. It’s in a fantastic part of town, with restaurants, shops, and things to see within walking distance, so exploring was easy. The design is a bit eclectic, and the room floors felt somewhat dated. I booked through the Marriott app expecting a typical Marriott-style hotel, but it runs independently within the Bonvoy program, so the experience is different. Even so, the staff and location stood out.

Jaume at reception and Richi, who handled our luggage and taxi, made us feel right at home. We arrived at 9am before the room was ready after a long flight, and they even called the spa so we could freshen up. The room was clean and comfortable. We only stayed one night, but the location was amazing, right in the main shopping area. The Gothic quarters is a short walk away, and Gracia, with its lovely cafes, is about 10 minutes on foot. Being part of Marriott Bonvoy was a nice extra. I’d stay here again.
