The Mo House Gotic

I slept better on the plane than I did here. The building is run-down, the shared bathroom smelled of mould and had a rusty lock, and there was almost no soundproofing. All night I could hear doors slamming, showers at 2 a.m., the lift beside my window going up and down, and loud conversations in the corridors. The bed was awful, soft as quicksand and completely unsupportive. I paid €200 a night for a tiny double room with a shared bathroom. The furniture looked like the cheapest IKEA pieces imaginable, and the only window faced other rooms, so there was no privacy. The windows didn't close properly either, which felt very unsafe. Staff made some effort to keep the place clean, and the young staff were friendly, but not very helpful. Communication was difficult because they barely spoke English, though I don't speak Spanish either. The location is excellent, right by Las Ramblas and Plaça Catalunya. That's the one good thing. My otherwise pleasant first trip to Barcelona was left with a bittersweet taste, and I deeply regret staying here. It was outrageously overpriced for what it offered. There's barely any common area or support for the rates they charge. They don't offer refunds. City tax is cash only, which seemed dodgy, and if you're alone in a double room, check they only charge the tax once. They tried to charge me twice. This place is a total scam. Skip it, stay a bit farther from Las Ramblas and get a decent night's sleep.
