I first came here 14 years ago while visiting Salamanca and Toledo, using Barca de Avila as a base for hiking in the Sierra de Gredos. When I returned to the area, I couldn't pass up another meal here. Locals eat here, and it's known for traditional Spanish food. The restaurant is nice, though it only opens at certain times; otherwise, you can eat in the bar or on the terrace. Try the cochonillo or cordero, slowly roasted in their special oven. It's huge, gets extremely hot, and turns the meat crispy and tender until it falls off the bone. Spring is the best time for the lamb, cordero.
