Original Domino House Hotel

I’ve been coming here for three years, and it’s great for solo travelers. The hotel has charm, and the staff are friendly, patient and hospitable. The location is perfect: everything is a 20-minute walk or a 10-minute bike ride away.

The location was decent, but I’d pay an extra 20 euros to stay somewhere with basic cleanliness and working facilities. Our room still had rubbish and other leftovers from the previous guest, and the cleaning staff seemed very hands-off. The building is showing its age too. Bits of crumbling brick fell onto the bed while I slept, and staff seemed indifferent when it kept happening. The bathroom wasn’t clean, there was mold, and repeated requests to the front desk for fresh towels got nowhere. The overhead light wouldn’t turn off unless we cut all power to the room, which also shut off the AC and meant we couldn’t charge anything overnight. If you’re thinking of booking just because it’s cheap, consider these issues carefully.

Our top-floor room had decent AC and a nice shower, though nudging it made the water get very hot very quickly. Breakfast is served across the road, and it was tasty. The service was decent, and the room was nice. Reception isn’t open around the clock, but in practice that didn’t really matter. The location was OK, on a bus route and a short walk from the park, with the metro not too far away. It’s not central, but we preferred that to somewhere noisy. For a big city, this was a quiet spot. If I’m back in Valencia, I’d gladly stay again.

They were renovating while we stayed, so it looks like they’re working to make the place even better. Our rooms were comfortable, clean and nicely designed, and the service was excellent and friendly. The location was very good too. Really good value for money and a great experience.
