Hospes Palacio de Arenales & Spa

We were told we could bring our dog lucy for an extra cost, but at check-in nobody mentioned that she was only welcome in a back room of the hotel and nowhere else. It felt soulless, and we felt very unwelcome. That was especially disappointing after the night before at a NH hitel in Burgos, where lucy was welcome everywhere. She’s a very well-behaved dog. The food was cold too, and it hadn’t been cooked in the restaurant.

We found this an ideal place to break up the route between Portugal and Spain, right in the heart of it. The food was excellent and fairly priced, and the pool was spotless. The spa was first-class too. I’ll definitely come back, and I highly recommend Portuguese couples stay for at least two nights.

The restaurant really made the weekend for us. The manager was welcoming and gave us great wine suggestions, and the food was delicious. Thanks to the kitchen team. Breakfast was just as good, with plenty to choose from and attentive staff. The woman who greeted us each morning had such a lovely smile. Our room was roomy and looked out over the pool. We enjoyed how relaxing the spa was, and the pool was open and warm enough to swim in. The gym looked great too, though I wish I’d packed workout clothes. My wife and I had a fantastic stay and will be back.

Hospes is our favorite hotel in Spain. Great food, service, staff, and spa. A really good hotel.
