Pazo do Souto

The only small snag was sometimes waiting a while to order food, though we were there in high season. We’d still happily come back. We stayed with a baby and two dogs, and the staff looked after us wonderfully, providing a crib and even a bed for the dogs. Our room was spacious, clean, and nicely decorated, and the garden was a lovely place to relax by the pool. The food was delicious too.

The best part was the setting: a picturesque old manor house with a pretty garden, a clean pool, and a good play area for kids. We came after a family event, and it was certainly relaxing. Parking was available, though the building didn’t seem especially wheelchair-friendly despite a few ramps. The price was the standard rate for our suite, with no reduction for the jacuzzi that wasn’t working properly. What you’re paying for is the romance of the manor itself. It was alright, but I wouldn’t return. The suite was fairly basic, with a double bed, mini-fridge, multifunction wardrobe, desk, and jacuzzi. The manager showed us how to start the tub by blowing into the pipe to get the water flowing before pressing the button, which raised health and safety concerns. The filter cap kept dropping into the water, and what was behind it wasn’t pleasant. The bathroom had a couple of gels, fluffy towels, a hairdryer, and a small comb, but oddly no soap. The mattress was hard and thin, though we slept okay. Breakfast was very good and served buffet-style, with hams, cheeses, preserves, tomatoes, homemade bread, apples from the tree, fruit salad, and probably fresh eggs, though I didn’t hear any chickens. There was plenty to choose from, and weekend breakfast hours were generous. Staff were friendly and efficient. We’d also eaten there the previous day as a large group: simple but plentiful, tasty food at reasonable prices, efficient waiter service, and decent wines served nicely chilled. The additional breakfast charge was reasonable.

We spent a very happy week here. The team gave us such a warm welcome, and the hotel has a charming, personal feel. The food was delicious, really good. It’s also a great base for exploring this part of Galicia.

Tito welcomed us warmly and shared lots of local tips. The restored mansion is incredible, with beautiful, atmospheric rooms, sweet gardens, and a lovely location for exploring North Galicia. The roads are good enough to reach Vigo in about two hours if you take it easy. The hydro bath in our room was a treat. The chef specializes in vegan cooking, but served me a huge T-bone that I couldn’t finish. The food was lovely.
