Stay: November 15-17, 2024. Our group was 15 people, 12 adults and 3 children. I hadn’t planned to review La Sentencia, either positively or negatively, after our stay last weekend. But the owner called three days later just to complain about us, so I think people considering a rental should know what happened. We were told the house slept 15, with 12 beds and 3 extra beds. The extra ones were awful: they folded up when an adult sat or lay on them. Fortunately, small children used them, but they were broken and below standard. The master bedroom, which is separate from the rest of the house, also had moldy walls and peeling paint. I didn’t make an issue of that at the time, but future guests should know. The house is nice for enjoying the outdoors, but cramped inside for 15, especially in cold weather. The kitchen and living room are small, and the indoor table only seats six. We were told a folding table would be provided. It was broken, though we managed to set it up and didn’t complain because it worked. Later, they accused us of breaking it and demanded €40. After paying €760, being charged for something that was already defective seems outrageous. We were told there were paella pans in different sizes, and the pans themselves were fine, but the gas burner didn’t work properly. I asked if we could have two gas cylinders so we could cook two paellas at once using another burner we were bringing. She said that was no problem. When we went to use them, one cylinder was empty. We called and were directed to a spare, which was hard to find and also empty. On the next call, she sent us to another part of the yard, but we searched everywhere and couldn’t find one. If you rent a house, everything should be clearly set out and in order, or the owner needs to be available to tenants. We gave an approximate arrival time and were told how to get in without the owner there. But the gate was shut when we arrived, and we couldn’t enter. She took half an hour to show up. That by itself wouldn’t have bothered us, things happen, but then she complained about it. We ran out of toilet paper because there was only one roll per bathroom plus one spare. When we mentioned it, they brought another roll but were rude about it. No one told us where to put the rubbish, and they later complained that we’d left it outside and stray dogs had torn into it. We were given only two bags for 15 people for three days, though luckily we’d brought plenty. They also claimed we left rubbish inside and the house dirty. We’re a family of three generations, grandparents, parents, and children, and other rural houses in Andalusia have always thanked us for leaving them tidy and clean. There were kitchen items missing, including cups, and only two dishwasher tablets. We didn’t complain about those things either, but they were deficiencies in the house.
