The surrounding area was the best part, and we were glad to spend our time out there. Inside, though, the place didn't live up to the photos. It wasn't as cozy as it looked, with very little daylight and not much good artificial lighting. There was a strange smell throughout, and only one window to open. The shower leaked, and the insulation was poor enough that we could hear the neighbors' footsteps, talking, and snoring. The kitchen had barely enough for two: two forks, two knives, two spoons, two glasses, two cups, and two plates. Even with just the two of us, we could have used a few more things so we didn't have to keep washing up. When we arrived, there wasn't a trash bag or a cloth, apparently because the cleaner had forgotten them. Disappointing, and we didn't want to spend any more time indoors than we had to.

The owners were easy to communicate with, even though we never met them. Staying in Pico Russell felt like stepping back in time. It's an original Aranese house, kept and renovated as a rural guesthouse, with an authentic character you don't get from modern hotels decorated with Ikea furniture. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with all the facilities we needed and thoughtfully chosen decor. Es Bòrdes is a peaceful village, well placed for getting away from it all, about 10 minutes from Vielha and on the way to Uelhs deth Joeu and Artiga de Lin. A special stay in the Aran Valley.
