El Mirador de Begoña

We were upgraded, so I can't really comment on the room we originally booked. The one we got was enormous. The hotel is great value and right in downtown Gijón, but keep in mind there's no parking and no arrangement with nearby car parks. You'll need to add more than €20 to your booking for parking.

For €200 a night, we didn't get the service we expected from a four star hotel, especially in a fairly small city. The price and quality didn't match, and there's clearly plenty to improve. Our room had an air conditioning leak running down the wall, and the floor was old and chipped in several places. The bathroom had a small step that was marked but still dangerous. Breakfast was very mediocre. We arrived in the evening, and the desk worker seemed tired and not in the mood to help, though he did try to be nice. There was no hotel parking or deal with any of the nearby car parks.

The rooms are as spacious and comfortable as people say. We arrived without a reservation on touring bikes, soaked after riding in the rain all day, and the front desk was incredibly kind and helpful. They even found a place in their office where I could plug in my ebike. Wonderful hotel and lovely staff.

A good, reasonably priced hotel with a good breakfast buffet.
