Saray Hotel

We had to go out very late to buy water because there wasn't any mineral water in the minibar. We also found an $18 charge for two small bags of chips and almonds left beside the bed. They weren't in the minibar or on a marked tray, and there was no price sign, so we thought they were a complimentary welcome treat. We brought both issues to the front desk and offered suggestions, but were told this was simply how the service worked and nothing could be done. Please make the snack charges clearer and provide water, which is a basic need.

The garage incident was especially frustrating: our car was damaged there, and nobody could help or offer to cover the damage. The hotel was old and outdated, and the lobby smelled of cigarettes throughout our stay. It was also under construction. We were disappointed with the whole experience and plan to dispute the charges with our credit card. There are plenty of better places to stay in Granada.

The neighborhood felt safe and pleasant, and we found parking nearby. Some spaces are free and marked white, while blue spaces require payment at a machine; Sundays are free. It's worth looking for a white space, such as on the street beside the hotel, to save money. The cathedral is about 15-20 minutes away on foot. Our room was okay, but the hotel seems past its best. The pool opens on 14 September. We had requested one double bed, but got two twin beds pushed together instead, which was a shame.

We enjoyed the clean, comfortable room and its lovely decor, and the breakfast buffet had plenty of choice. The bar and bistro served good food too, though one waitress made us feel as if we were bothering her. When a gentleman took over, he was much more patient with our broken Spanish and very nice. We wished we'd practiced our Spanish more, since not all the staff spoke English, but we managed to communicate.
