Altos de Istan

The hotel staff were wonderful, helpful, and attentive to detail, and we’ll be back. We loved the hiking trails right outside the door, which added lots of variety to our stay. Set in the mountains just above the small village of Istán, it’s a wonderfully peaceful escape from the bustle of Marbella.

We’ll definitely return to Hotel Altos de Istán, and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. The whole team made us feel at home and well looked after. José, Cristina, the restaurant staff, the chef, and especially Susana were so warm and welcoming. The restaurant was an outstanding experience. We loved the smoked sardines on toast, fillet steak with foie, and freshly made tiramisu. The salmon and squid-ink croquettes were excellent too, and everything was cooked perfectly. The hotel is beautiful inside and out, with stylish, distinctive décor and a spectacular solarium for relaxing and enjoying the views. We had a wonderful couples’ getaway there. It’s surrounded by nature at the edge of Istán, but still just a short walk from the village center.

We stopped at Altos De Istan while hiking in southern Spain, hoping for a quick bite and a bottle of wine, and came away really impressed with the hotel, restaurant, and staff. The food was fantastic, and the bartender and waitress was extremely attentive. The hotel is beautiful inside and out, with gorgeous views from the back patio. The manager even gave our daughters a private tour. If we’re lucky enough to return to Spain, Altos De Istan will be at the top of our list.

We only stopped for a quick snack during our hike, but the food was good, the atmosphere was nice, and everything was extremely clean. Above all, the staff were so friendly. We didn’t stay in a room, though it’s definitely an option for us in the future. Highly recommended.
