Palacio del Virrey Laserna

Asis and Alvaro were lovely and so helpful. My room was wonderfully sumptuous, with a really comfortable bed and great pillows. There was a coffee machine in the room, plus snacks and biscuits. It’s gorgeous accommodation in a historic palace that still works as a home. I’d highly recommend the palace tour. It’s absolutely beautiful and packed with history.

The man at reception for the guided tour was rude for no reason. I asked for a ticket in Spanish, and he said the English tour had just ended. I told him that was fine because I’m learning Spanish. He laughed and said I needed to learn more. There was no call for that kind of rudeness.

The bed was super comfortable, and we were pleasantly surprised by the in-room treats: coffee, biscuits, cupcakes, and nuts. We spent one night here. The old, romantic-looking castle is in the city center, conveniently close to parking, and the welcome was very kind and efficient. The guest house has a charming courtyard garden with a pool, a lovely quiet place to relax. The furnishings are dated, but clean and well kept, and there’s artwork all over the walls. We ran out of time for the building tour, so I can’t recommend it.

The gardens are a lovely surprise. I’ve brought visitors to Palacio del Virrey Laserna probably four or five times, and everyone I’ve taken has enjoyed it. The visit gives you the history of a beautiful house from a first-hand perspective, which makes it come alive. You hear stories about the furniture and artworks by well-known artists, how they came into the family’s possession, and what life in the house was like. You also see family photos and hear anecdotes.
