Hotel Casa Grande

Our room had a little enclosed terrace overlooking a square, which was a lovely spot for a glass of wine and people watching on a rainy day. Casa Grande is a beautiful, small old hotel in a great location, and it’s very well maintained. The staff were friendly, too. We loved our five-night stay and would choose it again if we’re ever in Jerez.

The staff made this stay for me: they welcomed me warmly, were helpful, and had local tips ready. I’d absolutely stay again. The bed and bedding were good, and there’s a handy bar for a drink to take to your room, the terrace, or one of the comfortable lounges. Breakfast was excellent, with cereals, fresh baking, ripe fruit, cheeses, Spanish ham and chorizo, plus eggs cooked to order. It’s a sweet little hotel in an easy walking location for Jerez’s sights. The traditional Spanish building is immaculate, nicely decorated, and updated with an elevator, air conditioning, and modern plumbing. Even with the hotel fully booked, I didn’t hear a peep in my room.

The ladies were really nice, though I think the hotel may have been a little understaffed. We were given two single beds, which wasn’t ideal for a happily married couple. There was no coffee maker or kettle, just instant coffee from the bar. The breakfast buffet also needed more attention: the coffee machine was often broken, and if you came down later, you had to look around for cups and plates.

The room had high ceilings, two Juliet balconies overlooking the square, comfortable beds, and a clean bathroom with a good shower that could be used overhead or not. There was plenty of space around the sink for toiletries. The building is beautiful, the common areas tastefully decorated, and the internal patio lovely. There’s also a roof terrace, though it could use some care, such as more comfortable chairs and extra shade. The room itself was pleasant, and the staff were friendly. We got a nice welcome drink, too. The location is excellent, just an easy five-minute walk to Plaza Arenal. The hotel sits on a pedestrianized plaza with cafes serving inexpensive breakfasts, so there was no road noise. The air conditioning was the big problem. Even on the lowest temperature and highest fan setting, it barely helped, and we slept poorly. On our last morning, the room was much hotter than it was outside. It needs fixing, especially since it can get much hotter than the low 30s it reached during our stay. We also had a significant amount of cash we wanted to put in the in-room safe, but it had pulled away from the wall and could simply be picked up. Reception said they had no safe we could use, so we had to carry the money around, which was far from ideal.
