Dorma Layos Golf

The golf course was nice, and we had a good round. The breakfast buffet was very good too. But the hotel felt nearly deserted, with very few staff and not much effort put into the place. The hotel next door is closed and derelict, which doesn’t help the approach. Inside, the restaurant looked uninviting, though we didn’t eat there, and the hotel was very quiet. Its location was perfect for a night out in Toledo. We booked a golf weekend and requested a nice room, but the first one was dirty, with broken floor tiles and grimy grout. The next room, four doors down, was the same. Eventually we got a better room with a private balcony. The pro shop shelves were empty, and the bar felt more like a social bar for everyone there than a golf bar. Vending machines charged €10 for crisps and a mini bottle of wine, and getting a drink was difficult. It all felt like the place had been abandoned and then reopened half-heartedly. With some effort and investment, it could be really nice.

A lovely hotel in a nice setting, and the staff were friendly and helpful, especially Ana in the bar. It only needs a little painting and maintenance to feel perfect. Breakfast was alright, though the hot food wasn’t actually hot. The croissant was okay, just a bit sweet.

The rooms were clean and the cleaning staff were very kind. Breakfast was fine, though when something like yoghurt ran out, it wasn’t replaced. Check-in was difficult because nobody spoke English and the administration was muddled, so they couldn’t find our reservation. It’s far from Toledo, and there’s little nearby. On Sunday we had to travel a long way to get groceries and dinner.

The room was clean, comfortable, and as expected, but there was no tea or coffee. The hotel itself is quite nice, though the exterior needs attention. My main issue is that the pool was closed and the bar wasn’t operating. I don’t understand how it can still be rated 4 stars without either. It’s about 10 minutes from a small town. I suspect it was built before the pandemic and has been left somewhat abandoned.
