Hotel Alda Barrio Húmedo

Our room was modern and minimalist, and the inside of the hotel looked much newer than its run-down office-like exterior. The front desk agent said it had opened only 10 days before we arrived. We checked in around 6pm on August 6th for one night and paid 12 EUR to park in the garage. We were told the front door would lock at 11pm and that our room key would open it. The room's wood furniture had scratches, there was just one small bulb in the bathroom, and no toiletries. There was liquid soap by the sink and another dispenser in the shower, so washing your hair meant using soap. The towel hooks were pulling out of the marble wall and looked ready to fall. There was no phone or fridge in the room. The worst part came after we went out to see the area and returned at midnight. The A/C wasn't working, the room was very hot, and it was about 85F outside. We tried different thermostat settings, but the display kept showing an error. I went downstairs for help, but nobody was in charge after 11pm. I called the ALDA hotels number from my cell and got no answer. I also emailed through their website and still haven't heard back. The hallways were like an oven too, with no A/C. After a terrible night without sleep, I complained at the front desk. They said they'd told us at check-in that an emergency number was written on the key envelope. We had seen it, but the number of digits made us think it wasn't a phone number, and nobody had explained it. We asked to speak with a supervisor, but the front desk person said none was around and wouldn't agree to any credit on the room charge. It seemed obvious the hotel had opened before the work was finished and still had plenty of issues to sort out, starting with training staff in good customer service.

Quiet, clean, and a good deal. A great choice.

I had a great stay here. The mattress was super comfortable, and the hotel was spotless and felt brand new. There was no noise from the street or neighboring rooms. It's a low-star hotel, but very good for what it is. Breakfast is served at a nearby bar, which I actually prefer to having it at the hotel.

It's right in the heart of Barrio Húmedo, León's best-known area for nightlife, restaurants, shops, and more, but the hotel was surprisingly quiet even with the city centre location. The rooms are spacious and clean, and it's a super cute place with excellent value for money.
