El Rincon del Cuera

The owners were delightful and always ready with tips on places to visit, routes to take, and where to eat. Rooms are spacious and meticulously clean, and breakfast offers a wide selection of sweet and savory options. There’s also an outdoor pool kept heated to around 25 degrees Celsius all day. A charming place.

The views are lovely, but you really need a car to get anywhere, and the price is way too high for what you get. The advertised bar isn’t there; reception only sells canned items, and it closes at 8:30 pm. Breakfast is just passable and only served from 9:00 to 10:30 am. The pool situation is poor: the heated pool is nearly empty, and the children’s pool is dirty and unused. The rooms feel like something from a soap opera, with no fridge or even a chair. There are only two hangers in the wardrobe, and the terrace has a huge table and a bench that aren’t practical for eating.

We didn’t stop moving for those three days at the end of August. The location made it easy to explore the coast and its lovely beaches, the Picos de Europa, Santina and the Covadonga lakes, Llanes, Cangas de Onís, Potes, Lastres, and plenty more. After all that, the breakfast was just right to get the day started, and Ángel was so kind. Thanks for everything, Ángel. We had a fantastic stay.

Breakfast was a disgrace: the coffee was undrinkable, the juice came from the cheapest carton, and the tap water tasted of chlorine. Breakfast didn’t start until 9:00 AM, and melon wasn’t available before 9:30. The bar had very limited hours and served only beer and canned soft drinks, no wine. There’s no refrigerator, getting glasses is a hassle, chilling drinks is difficult, and boiling water in the evening isn’t possible. We were misled by the pool and grounds in the photos. The pool is large but poorly cared for, and the children’s pool is like a tadpole pond. Grass had been cut during our stay, but three days later it was still left in the footbath. The room was roomy but bleak, with sparse, uncared-for furniture. For a family-run hotel, it’s hard to understand the lack of pride in the place. The price was ridiculously high. This was easily the most expensive of our five stays, even costing more than our four-star hotel with a big pool and private beach on a beautiful bay. Not one euro seems to go back into the accommodation. You’re paying for the lovely setting, which isn’t something the owners created. The owner seems stuck in the last century. Shameful and shameless.
