Hotel Cassandra

Even if it’s the cheapest in the area, I definitely wouldn’t recommend it. The hotel is very old and poorly maintained. The toilet had no water pressure, the shower temperature wouldn’t stay constant, and the furniture was old and smelly. The mattress and pillow were uncomfortable. Room service didn’t change the sheets or towels until I specifically asked. The TV and AC remotes weren’t in the room, so I had to request them at reception. Some receptionists asked for a €15 cash deposit. Don’t do that. We waited until morning and asked another receptionist, who was local, and he gave us the remotes without a deposit. This is a two-star hotel at most, definitely not three stars. S'Arenal isn’t a nice area either, with poor food at very high prices, dodgy people and scams on the streets.

I used to choose hotels based on reviews, but as a regular traveller I’m going by my own experience now. Check-in was quick and straightforward, the staff I saw were polite, and my room was a decent size, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was acceptable and good value. I tried the €10 dinner, and the staff kindly suggested looking at it before deciding. For that price, it was acceptable too. Shops and the beach are about a 10-minute walk away. The reviews are terrible, but if you want five stars, pay five-star prices and stop moaning. For what I paid, the value was fair. Cassandra hotel, would I come back? YES. Thanks for the good-value stay.

The location is excellent, near the beach, a nice promenade and the bus station, with connections to Palma and the airport. We stayed 10 days and, despite my doubts from reading so many negative comments, had a pretty good experience. Our room was spacious and clean, and the maids changed the towels regularly. The furniture and style were old-fashioned, but functional and comfortable enough for 10 days. Breakfast was basic and repetitive, though there was always something to eat. Dinner tasted good, with mostly the same dishes each night and only small changes, but the quality was good and we ate well. There’s a billiard table, a claw machine and a few other games in the lobby. The hotel has an elevator, though it was out of order for 2-3 days, which wasn’t a big problem for us on the second floor. Air conditioning cost extra, but they refunded the money at the end. It’s a simple three-star hotel, clean, functional and good value if you expect what a three-star place offers, rather than anything luxurious or modern.

The location was perfect, with a bus stop outside for Palma and other parts of the island, a spar supermarket with everything we needed, and the beach, restaurants and bars just a 10-minute walk away. Our room wasn’t modern, but it was spacious, clean and had everything we needed. It was cleaned every day, with fresh towels and bedding. WiFi costs extra, and the air-con remote requires a €15 deposit. There’s little soundproofing, so it could get loud sometimes. We slept with earplugs and couldn’t hear anything, and had a great night’s sleep every night.
