The rooms are lovely, the atmosphere is fantastic, and the staff are super friendly. Highly recommend it.

A nice place.

This is a house turned into rooms for rent, not a hotel, though that's what we thought we'd booked. For what you get, I found it very expensive. The place looked reasonably clean, but maintenance felt neglected. Our towels hadn't been changed; we called and got fresh ones a while later. The bedspread had several stains, and the sheets were stained too, so I doubt they'd been changed. At 3 p.m. the room was cold. The shower had low pressure and nowhere to hang the showerhead, there was no hairdryer, and our request for an extra blanket was ignored. In general, the place felt cold and unused. Hotel-level prices, without the comfort or assurances you'd expect from a hotel.

The walls are so thin you can hear everything, from conversations and arguments to more private goings-on. Breakfast was left on the table, with no chance of getting seconds, and there was no receptionist or manager. The keys are left in a coded box. That setup may suit some people, but I wouldn't return. For one night it's an okay place to sleep, and it's charming and rustic, though more decorated than I like.

Breakfast was waiting when we got up, and it was generous and delicious. The room was lovely too, although the mattress could do with replacing soon. It's a great base for visiting the castle and the surrounding area. Check-in is self-service: you call a number when you arrive and get instructions for collecting the keys. I don't get the complaints about that. Maybe people want a hug. Just kidding.
