Albergue Albas - Hostel

Clean and modern, with friendly staff and secure storage. Excellent albergue.

For what it costs, this was the worst place I stayed on the Camino. It’s 800 metres off the route in the opposite direction, so pilgrims have to walk over 1.6 km to stay here. There are around 30 beds in one room, and the noise is no joke. There’s no individual light, only the main room light. The dining room is a tiny space with a table and fridge, already crowded with just four or five people, so it’s hard to use for a meal. The unisex shower stalls have no doors, just curtains, which is a big inconvenience. They’re very small, and the showers work by pressing a button over and over. At first you get cold water, then it turns warm, but before long it goes cold again.

The albergue is very modern, but it’s a long way from the cathedral. If you’re already exhausted, I wouldn’t stay here.

The owner was so friendly, flexible, and helpful. The room was great, and the mattresses were really comfortable. Showers were fine, and there’s plenty of outdoor space to hang washed clothes in the sun. I thought it was well worth paying 5 euros more than the municipal albergue in Logroño.
