Hostal La Cortijana

I drop in for lunch with friends now and then. The bocatas are generously sized, with lots of options at good prices. The meatballs and bacon sub is 10/10.

It was mid-July and very hot, and there was no air conditioning or even a fan available, despite asking for help. Opening the windows was the only way to get some ventilation, but it barely helped without a breeze. It also let in all the noise outside. Drunk people were screaming and there was violent activity until late at night and into the early morning, so neither of us could sleep during the two nights we booked. We nearly left for somewhere else, but had already paid, there were no refunds, and we needed to be near the university. We just got through it and left as soon as we could. The place was above a restaurant and bar, which we thought might be nice, but it was noisy too, though I know that's part of this area. The owner or manager wasn't friendly and barely communicated while taking our information, so things were unclear right from the start. We had to navigate a strange maze to find the room, and at least they sent someone to show us where it was. We also needed another roll of toilet paper. Instead of just getting us one, they asked why, saying they'd already given us one, which they hadn't. It felt like they were rationing it. I would've bought my own if it was such a problem. This was one of the worst experiences I've had with sleeping arrangements while traveling. We were very unhappy and would never recommend this place or come back.
