The castle itself is lovely, and the restaurant staff were attentive and genuinely kind. We had perfect service, and there's a terrace outside with stunning views, just right for a gin and tonic. I should say we didn't stay at the hotel, so this is only about the restaurant. You don't choose the starters, which is a bit funny, and then pick your main. They bring around 5-6 starters, with far too much food and only medium-low quality. The main was much the same. I heard nearby diners say they were so full they left food behind, and my colleague left 2/3 of the main and one starter. For me, a meal needs a balance of quality, quantity, and price, and here the portions throw that off. They could cut 2-3 starters and spend more on better ingredients.

The cook picks the starters for you, and they were amazing. Eating in the castle made it even better. This is the best Galician restaurant I've ever been to!

The nicest part was having our meal inside the castle, which felt lovely. The food and service were both OK. I went to the Castelo de Maceda with my whole family to celebrate my grandma's birthday.

A pleasant spot for a drink beside the castle wall. It's a nice castle with a small hotel inside.

A castle that's now a bar, restaurant, and hotel. It makes a great side trip, and it's not too far from Ourense.
