Adventure Hostel Madrid Gran vía

The location was fine, but the hostel was a construction site while they were renovating. We didn’t get the rooms or beds we booked, and they didn’t offer even 1 EUR to make up for the mistake. Their “official Normal prices” are a scam, pure fantasy :) The supposed “discounts” are their actual normal prices, so don’t fall for the marketing tricks.

The dorm had a toilet right beside the beds with no door, so you could hear and smell people using it. There’s no communal area at all, which feels mean. I saw lots of cleaning staff, so it’s not that the place is filthy, but I don’t know how to describe the smells you get when you’re sleeping right by a toilet. It’s not too expensive, and we arrived early, so the staff kindly let us drop our bags. They were polite. I’ve stayed in a lot of hostels, and this one really needs some serious improvements.

The location is really convenient, and the staff were good, but the place was pretty gross. My pillowcase had a blood stain, and there was crusty stuff smeared on the curtain for my bunk. The bunk was broken and barely hanging on, so it didn’t give me much privacy. The bathroom isn’t closed off from the room, meaning you hear and smell everything. The showers are so tiny you can’t even reach down to pick something up if you drop it. If you have earplugs, you should be fine.

The property and rooms were nice, and it’s in an awesome location. But if having your own food matters to you, you’ll want to pass. There’s no fridge or kitchen. I booked and somehow missed that there was no kitchen, even though it’s a common amenity in luxury hostels. I’d just bought groceries, so I checked out a few hours after checking in.
