Apartamento Esparteros

It's in a good walking area near Plaza Mayor and the Sol Metro, with lots to see and plenty of good places to eat. The room and bathroom were small but nice, and the towels and sheets were okay. I liked having a fitted bottom sheet that stays put overnight. Good price, and I'd stay again.

The location is great, right in the middle of everything and next to Plaza Mayor. The staff were really nice, and the cleaning people were always around making sure everything was clean. The place is modern and very clean, and despite the tiny room it had almost everything: a TV, air conditioning, heating, mini fridge, electric kettle with tea and coffee, toiletries, and a hair dryer. I stayed in the individual room overlooking the interior court. It was so small that you were on the bed as soon as you stepped inside. The bathroom was just as cramped, with only enough room to shuffle sideways for the two steps you could take. There was nowhere to put my things, so I had to move them from the bed to the heater or toilet while I slept. Please add some hooks on the door or a shelf somewhere. The sink was so small that brushing my teeth or washing my face was awkward. The covered interior court meant no fresh air, and there was a strange smell from the pipes. Still, it's a good place to sleep for a couple of nights.

The staff let us leave our bags there for free on both arrival and departure days, which was really handy. We spent four nights and found the price great for what we got. Sol metro is under a five-minute walk away, and the room had everything we needed for a short budget visit. It was small, but comfortable, with effective blackout shutters and good air conditioning. The bathroom was small too, though clean, and the shower worked well. We had a tiny balcony looking onto the street, and staff were nice. We only asked for one room clean during our stay, but got fresh towels each day. There was building work on the third floor, though it didn't start early. The bigger annoyance was how thin the walls were: noisy people next door were yelling at 2 in the morning. That wasn't really the hotel's fault. I'd recommend it for a short city stay when you're watching your budget.

The location was the best part. We could walk to all the main tourist spots in Madrid. The rooms were nice and fresh, and the staff were very polite. Our flight was delayed, so we didn't check in until 3am, but that worked out.
