Charming Puerta de Toledo IV

Getting around was really practical for the workshop participants who wanted to explore Madrid. We held the workshop at the hotel, and the room was flexible and filled with natural light. The staff and management were excellent and very helpful, and there was plenty of food. Thank you!

The restaurant menu is small, but the food is very good, and breakfast has a nice range of options. The hotel is well placed, about a 15-minute walk in a straight line from Plaza Mayor. The double rooms are pleasant. The single rooms are another story: both the room and bed are VERY small. If you’re over 1.80 metres, I’d avoid one. I’d give the singles 4.0/10 and the rest of the hotel 8.2/10.

We went to the hotel café on a rainy afternoon for a snack, three adults with four kids. The tall waiter pointed us to a table without greeting us. Then a woman told us, also without saying hello, that the children had to be quiet or we’d all be thrown out. The waiter later said people were working there and the kids couldn’t be there, even though we were ready to order and only two other tables were occupied, with older people chatting over tea. When I said this seemed discriminatory toward families, the waiter cited the right of admission. I’d invite the hotel to review Spanish law: that right applies in situations such as danger, overcrowding, or a disturbance. None of those described us. Everyone was seated and waiting to order. I believe this was age discrimination, which isn’t allowed, just like discrimination based on gender, skin color, or disability. I encourage the hotel to respect the law, and anyone discriminated against to report what happened.

The neighborhood felt quiet and safe, and the nearby metro station made it easy to get around Madrid. My room was spotless, the staff were very helpful, and the price was excellent for what you get. I had a great stay at Hotel Puerta de Toledo and would definitely come back on another Madrid trip. 100% recommend it!
