Hostal Esmeralda

There are lots of good bars and places to eat nearby, and the hotel is very central in Madrid. It was very clean, and the beds and towels were changed daily, even when we left the room later in the afternoon. Keep the balcony windows shut at night because it's noisy outside, but once they're closed you can't hear a thing! We definitely recommend it, and we're already planning to stay in the same place next year.

I picked Hostal Esmeralda for its location and reasonable nightly price. It's under a five-minute walk to Madrid Metro Station Sol, right by Plaza Puerta del Sol, with its busy crowds, restaurants, tapas bars, and a carrefor express open 24 hours. The hostal takes up the second floor of the building, with a working elevator and 24-hour reception. My room was small but had enough for one person: a closet, little table and chair, comfortable single bed, and cool a/c. The en suite bathroom was clean, with a hot and cold shower. The Wi-Fi was easy to connect to and fast. I got a good night's rest, and the crowd below wasn't too noisy. Taking bus 203 from Atocha to Barajad Airport was easy.

The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the price was good for a basic place with everything you need. It's right near Sol and Gran Via, an amazing location. You can hear some noise, which is expected here, especially with a popular bar downstairs.

My room was small but clean, and I slept really well despite hearing the city outside. Sol metro is just a few minutes' walk away, with the city buzz right outside the door. The woman at reception didn't speak English, but check-in was still no problem.
