Hostal Victoria I

The price was appealing, and it’s well located near most places of interest. The streets get noisy at night. If you want a simple, inexpensive place in Madrid with a bed and a shower, this could work.

Our room was small but modern, with a good bathroom, a large bed, and a lovely balcony. It was very clean and generally quiet at night, with good air conditioning. The staff were helpful, the price was great, and the location is incredibly central. We booked the Victoria II, which doesn’t appear online, about three doors down from the Victoria I. I’d absolutely recommend this hotel.

The room was small, but it had what I needed: a bathroom, safe, little fridge, and a comfortable bed. The location is very central. My room on the fifth floor was below some noisy neighbors.

The biggest issue was the noise at night. The building has both hotel guests and residents, and we heard dogs barking and howling, babies crying, and some staff chatting and laughing into the very early morning. The plumbing was loud too, so we could hear toilets flushing and showers starting. The location by the Puerta del Sol is fantastic, within walking distance of Madrid’s main sights, and the multilingual staff were very helpful. They let us leave our bags at the hotel after checkout. The room was cleaned every day, although we did find a couple of cockroaches.
