I was trying to give three stars, but it won’t let me change the rating. The air conditioning in our room wouldn’t blow cool air, so I wouldn’t recommend staying in August. The location was really good, though, and Margarita was an attentive hostess.

The basics here are very simple, which makes sense for what you pay. The real draw is the location, just steps from Plaza Mayor and downtown Madrid, and I don’t think there’s a cheaper hotel option around, as opposed to a hostel. The bed had some softness to it, rather than feeling like a hard rock. The small team of two or three staff work hard, and it’s nice to see them doing a good job. If location comes first and you want a no-frills stay, this fits.

Really nice stay. The location is superb, with a halal kebab restaurant nearby. The elevator is a bit small.

The location is amazing, right in the middle of central Madrid, with Opera station just down the road. The room is adequate and the bathroom pretty basic; inside, things may strike you as a bit old and traditional. I’d expect a lower price, more in line with a budget stay, though I suppose the area is what they’re charging for.

There’s no breakfast, but the hotel is handy for the busy streets, with cafes and restaurants just a few steps away. The rooms are cleaned very well, and the attractions are within walking distance.
