One of the prettiest metro stops, with lovely blue tiles. It brings you to a charming square that isn’t overrun with tourists, with flower shops, bakeries, groceries, and places to eat.

This rather old station has a bit of an odd charm. It’s on Madrid’s underground line 1, though it’s been remodeled since the 1930s. The station brings you into one of the city’s most picturesque areas, so you’ll probably find yourself passing through at some point during your time in Madrid.

There weren’t enough dishes or linens for all the beds, and we got just one bath towel with no face towels. The air conditioners in the rooms didn’t work. We could hear every noise from outside, and the cleaning needs attention. There wasn’t enough toilet paper, no towels or paper in the kitchen, and no detergent for the washing machine. One day, someone came into the apartment and stole a pair of glasses, cosmetics, and a few inexpensive things.

The worst part was the break-in on the second-to-last day, when someone stole our cosmetics, jewelry, glasses, and other personal belongings. The apartment also needs basic things: plates, glasses, cups, and towels or paper towels for the kitchen. There were no sheets, pillow, or blanket for the living-room sofa. It’s cold this time of year, and aside from two bathroom radiators, there’s no way to heat the place. Only the living-room air conditioner works. The windows are very old, so every outside noise comes through, especially with all the work on the market square pavement nearby. The apartment is well located near the center and Mayor Square, but the Booking photos make it look worth more than it is.

I’d give this stop 4.8 stars, rounded up to 5, if it didn’t have so many stairs. My legs get tired, and I probably need to go to the gym more. Still, it’s my favorite metro stop anywhere. I like checking out metros around the world, and honestly, I wish I could move to Madrid just to sleep here every night. Don’t judge me!
