Mercure Madrid Centro

We booked a Junior Suite on the highest floor and were impressed by how it was laid out. The bedroom was spacious and fully enclosed, separate from the living area, so it felt more like a proper Suite. The huge terrace was the highlight, nearly as large as the suite itself, with views of the Prado. The hotel looks simple and unassuming from the street, but the rooms were impressive. The location is great, right across the street from the Prado museum and within walking distance of the main city centre sites. Staff were exceptionally friendly, professional, and helpful, with a level of care I'd expect more from a 5-star Sofitel than a 3-4 star like Mercure. We stay in Madrid often and will definitely come back.

The people working here were genuinely kind and helpful. I had a package delivered to my room during my stay, which I really appreciated. The room was comfortable, with good linens, a safe, a usable wardrobe, and lots of power outlets. The coffee maker, capsules, teas, and kettle were a nice extra. The bathroom felt inviting, with soft towels and a great shower pressure and temperature. There are a few things that need attention. Coffee and tea were replenished some days but not others. The sink had a visible crack, and parts of the building and furnishings looked worn with age. The floor plan is small, and doors and elevator noise were more noticeable than ideal. The internet kept dropping, making it hard to work or browse without interruption. I also couldn't use my Accor welcome drink because, as far as I could tell, there was no bar. It's comfortable enough and the service from the staff is excellent, but some simple fixes and more consistent service would make a big difference.

I've stayed here before and would probably come back because the location is so convenient. Madrid centre, Retiro Park, tapas bars, cafes, and lots of transport links are all an easy walk away. Everyone I spoke to on staff was lovely, friendly, and helpful. The room was a good size, with a comfortable bed, a very nice bathroom that felt more modern than the rest of the room, and a bigger fridge than I expected. It faced an inner courtyard, which was quieter than a street-facing room. I had asked for somewhere quiet, and this room was definitely quieter than the one I had on my last stay. You can hear a lot through the walls, even a light switch and conversations between the cleaning staff. There was a kettle and coffee machine, but only paper cups and cardboard stirrers, which felt cheap and awkward to use. There also aren't the other facilities I'd expect at a 4-star hotel.

The service was nice, though the staff could use training. The location is sensational and it was clean, but the hotel is worn out, so I can't recommend it. There's also a lack of professionalism towards loyal Accor members. For over 200 Euros a night, I expected more from a four-star Accor hotel. My Superior room needed renovation. The only coffee capsules were decaf, and reception told me they didn't have any others. I got paper cups instead of the usual porcelain cups or mugs, and check-in took a very long time and felt outdated. A huge disappointment, especially for a birthday stay.
