Petit Palace Plaza Mayor

We were there for five nights, and my first impression wasn’t great, though I changed my mind quickly. The decor is a little tired, but the hotel is very clean. The beds and bathroom were perfect, and the rooms are so well soundproofed that we couldn’t hear voices, TV, snoring, or antics from neighboring rooms. Street noise does come through, but it quiets down after midnight. The staff were kind and helpful, and breakfast was fantastic. It’s very well situated, with everything walkable and mercado San Miguel right across the road. We booked late, close to Christmas, so the price was really high. I’d book ahead next time and would happily return.

It was very clean, and the service and location were exceptional. The hotel had all the amenities you’d want from a good hotel, though the decor is a bit rough around the edges. My only gripe is that the bathroom isn’t very soundproof. The shower, on the other hand, was one of the best I’ve ever had, even compared with some nice hotels I’ve stayed in.

I wouldn’t book with this hotel group again. Their website’s cancellation terms are minimal and confusing, and they went against their own terms by charging me before my stay after I asked whether my reservation was refundable. It took 18 emails to get an explanation that made sense, then they charged the full amount even though my stay isn’t until August. Their terms say they can charge only if you “cancel or don’t show up” for the reservation. Save yourself the headache and book with another hotel group.

The rooms are on the small side for a bigger family, but they’re very nice. Great location, and the breakfast was lovely, well worth paying for.
