Whenever I’m in Madrid, Hotel Puerta de Toledo is my first pick. The location works well, the staff are friendly, and the quality for the price makes it an easy choice.

It’s the smaller of the two gates, with Puerta DeAlcala being the larger one with five arches. What makes this one interesting is the sculpture group atop the central arch on the south side. Ramón Barba and Valeriano Salvatierra made the figures, which stand for the power of the Spanish monarchy.

I use this metro station a lot. It’s pretty ordinary and there are loads of stairs, but once you come out, THE Puerta de Toledo is right there and looks beautiful.
