Hotel Agumar Atocha

The staff were super helpful, and I’d definitely return. I liked the convenient breakfast, and the hotel is in a good location. The bedrooms could use a refresh, as other reviews have said, but if you’re only there to sleep, there isn’t much to complain about unless you get loud neighbors. That can happen anywhere. Living in Europe, I found the room considerably larger than one in Paris.

We stayed two nights, and this was the best cheap hotel we could find in the area. Breakfast was great, with more of a local selection, and the service was good, though not perfect. They let us store our bags when our 3pm check-in meant waiting a bit longer. The hotel has clearly seen better days and needs renovation to look fresh. The rooms are large, and ours had a beautiful little balcony. It’s not walkable to the city centre, but close by taxi or car.

Was I happy with my stay? It was okay. Is it worth four stars? Nope. It feels like it might have deserved that rating in the past, but the place needs better care. Breakfast was really nice, and the lobby was beautiful. The room had hardcore 00s ugly colors, which was okay 😀. What I hated were the pillows, so high they literally broke my neck, even though I like to keep my head raised when I sleep. There were mold spots on the shower silicone, which really needs replacing. The neighbors weren’t extremely loud, but I could hear them talking on the phone and having sex 😀.

The room felt boxed in, with its window facing three walls and no natural light to tell whether it was day or night. It was small, and the hotel itself seemed very old. The walls were so thin that calls, conversations, and even toilet noises from next door came through loudly and clearly. A strong sewage smell from the toilet lingered all day, which was awful and unhygienic to breathe in. The cleaning ladies were the only staff who were friendly. The receptionists acted like helping was a favor, and the younger blond man there was rude and dismissive, mostly just nodding and barely speaking. Calling this a four-star hotel is a joke. Two stars at best, and a terrible stay.
