Sol Barbados

Our family of five had a great holiday, with children aged 10 months and 3 years. There was plenty to keep them busy, and the beach was just a short walk away, along with lots of shops and restaurants. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were cleaned daily to a very good standard. It’s the first holiday I’ve had without anything to complain about. Thank you 😊

The hotel is great for families. There are pool activities in the daytime and shows on stage in the evening. The beach is about five minutes away, and the room was comfortable, with excellent soundproofing. Reception were very friendly, housekeeping cleaned daily and changed the bathroom towels unless we asked them to skip service, and the bar staff stayed patient even when it was busy. There was a clean, varied buffet with seafood, fish, chicken, beef, pork, vegetables and drinks, though I’d give the food quality 7.5/10. The main annoyances were the crowded elevator at peak times and mealtimes, occasional waits at the buffet while families were organized and the crowd managed, and an old bathroom door that was difficult to close. Still, it was a pleasant stay and I’d visit again.

The kids’ club was probably the best part of our 10 days at Sol Barbados. Sofia, Marta, Natalia, Sheila, Naty and Nacho were fantastic, and apologies if I’ve forgotten anyone, all the staff were amazing. Carla at reception was very friendly, and Jesus in the bar area looked after us really well. We had a great time at the kids’ pools and slides. The area was clean, there were enough lifeguards and plenty of sunbeds, so there was no sunbed war 😃. I’d give the food 6/10. It could definitely be better, but it wasn’t anything horrible like some people describe. We had a 3.5-year-old with us, and I’d definitely recommend this hotel for families because the kids’ club made the holiday five-star. I asked for a lower floor and was happy to get the first floor. Our room faced the road, which was also great because I’d say it was the quiet part. The location was brilliant, near a beautiful beach, restaurants, bars and shops, with a bus stop five minutes away.

The pools were freezing, and we had to take our toddler out several times when she started shivering. The lifts were a nightmare too, with very long waits. One lifeguard was rude when my partner asked them to open the other gate to the ramp for our pram, and my partner complained about it. The buffet was good, but seemed to serve the same food each day. At opening time, 6:30, it was unbelievably busy, with people fighting over desserts and children putting their fingers in the ice cream and licking the scoops. We ate out most evenings because of the repeated menu. Still, it’s a lovely, very clean hotel and not far from the beach.
