Inmalaga Palacio

The lift system takes some getting used to. You choose your floor at a console as you approach, then it tells you whether to wait for A, B or C. Taking a different lift may not get you to the floor you selected. Still, we had another lovely stay at the AC Hotel Malaga Palacio. We love visiting Malaga and will use the hotel again, thanks to its atmosphere, cleanliness and friendly staff. It had been 13 years since our last visit, which we hadn’t realised until we returned. The hotel hasn’t changed much, and whether that’s good or bad probably depends on your point of view. It was spotless again, with lovely bar and lounge areas and clean, serviceable rooms. The rooms haven’t been updated since we were last here, but the quality materials have held up well and nothing looked worn. The TV could use a smart upgrade. We enjoyed the balcony and its views over the gardens and harbour. The security team, front desk, porters and room service staff were friendly and professional, and made us feel welcome. They even sent a chocolate cake to our room to celebrate our return. At the rooftop restaurant and pool bar, staff seemed a little more focused on routine tasks than on customer service, though we noticed that on our last visit too. There were fewer sun loungers than before, but I understand the need to fit in more guests with regular seating. Thanks to everyone we met for making it an enjoyable stay.

The staff made us feel at home and went out of their way to help. They even remembered my husband’s birthday and sent him a delicious surprise gift. Pablo was particularly helpful with all our questions, though the whole team was amazing. The views are spectacular, and the rooftop restaurant is well worth trying. The hotel is right in the center, within walking distance of museums, the cathedral, Museo Pompidou, the Roman Theatre and plenty more. Easily the best hotel, worth every penny.

We didn’t stay at the hotel, but heard about the rooftop bar and went for sunset. It’s the highest point in downtown, with views of the sea, port, castle and mountains across the upscale downtown area. The cardinal is right next door. The sunset views are hard to beat, and it’s a great stop for photos. There’s an entry fee, but it includes a drink, so don’t let that put you off. Get there early because it fills up fast. I’d suggest arriving about an hour and a half to two hours before sunset if you want to get a seat. Dress up.

We picked this lovely hotel in the heart of Malaga for the marathon. After the race, my wife and I could watch it from our balcony, which was a perfect 10/10. The room was good, everything was super clean, and the staff were very friendly. The style feels like the late 90s, though, and in my opinion it could use an update.
