Oasis Backpackers Hostel Malaga

I was in shared room 11, with four beds. It’s very central, generally quiet, clean, and the staff are nice. There was some noise from the common areas. The room heater can only be switched on by reception, and it turns itself off after a few hours.

I was in a clean, perfectly usable 10-bed mixed dorm. There were plenty of outlets, including one by my bed with a reading light. The mattress and bedding felt a bit cheap. Nights were chilly, and the blanket was thin, though there was a note in the room saying extra blankets seemed to be available at no charge. I had brought my own since “linen included” sometimes means sheets only, and I slept fine. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the location is right in the center. The rooftop terrace was nice, but I didn’t find the atmosphere especially social for someone traveling alone, even though the other guests weren’t unfriendly. The kitchens seemed clean and well equipped, and I had plenty of hot water for my shower. Luggage storage was free, which was handy, but I was uneasy that there were no tags. It seemed anyone could take the wrong bag by accident, or on purpose. Noise doesn’t bother me, so I had almost no trouble falling asleep. Light sleepers might struggle here. I’d probably come back if I wanted to stay in the city center.

The hostel was kept really clean, but I left Oasis Malaga disappointed. I’ve stayed at other Oasis hostels and had an amazing time, so my expectations were high. This one shouldn’t be promoted as a party hostel. It had the facilities for a social atmosphere, but there was no atmosphere at all. The staff were fairly helpful, but when I asked for recommendations, they couldn’t offer any. I came away disillusioned.

There’s plenty of room in the common areas, so even a larger dorm doesn’t feel crowded. It’s central, with lots of bars and restaurants nearby, and fairly clean. There’s also a cute rooftop bar where you can relax. The mojitos are pretty good and reasonably priced.
