The room was okay, if a bit dated, and we weren’t given towels. That was a first for me at a hotel, though luckily we’d brought our own. The manager was very rude, and communication was difficult: she spoke no English and barely any Spanish, so we got by in broken German. There was no indication or incentive to eat dinner there, so we crossed the road and spent €100 instead. Later, when we went to the bar for a drink, the lady shooed us outside because she was on the phone. No wonder the place was dark and nearly empty, with just one other couple in a 12-room hotel. It could be nice with an upgrade and a better attitude, and an outdoor clothes line would help. It seems to serve mostly as a car park for the yard across the road. We stayed here on the Camino because it’s an out-of-the-way, quiet stop. Take the bad reviews seriously and avoid it if you can.

The room was clean and the price is low, but treating guests like thieves is really low class. I was told they don’t provide towels because people steal them, unless you want to buy one. Real low class!

The room was spacious and clean, and the lady was nice enough to help us find somewhere to keep our bicycles. We were happy with what we got for the price. It has an old German, vintage feel, and there was a funny smell at first, but 40€ is 40€:-). My main drawback was the street noise in the morning.

The breakfast was really great, and the staff were extremely friendly with excellent service. If you’re traveling in a larger group and can’t find a place in Palas de Rei, this is a great alternative.

The hosts were very kind, and I slept well. The place sits between two villages, so there isn’t much to do nearby, though the castle of Pambre is a 6.5 km walk away. The rooms are a little dated, but still bright and comfortable, with a cottage-like feel.
