Pensión Eva

We left after one night, even though we'd booked four, and were extremely disappointed. When we told the staff we were leaving, they showed no interest in understanding why or trying to keep us there. We had no communication with the owner. The building echoes throughout. Downstairs there are nine double bedrooms sharing two bathrooms. One bathroom has no ventilation, so an open window near the ceiling separates it from the other. Upstairs there are four double bedrooms and two shared shower rooms, which were not as bad, and the balcony looked nice. The staff who 'welcomed' us also lived at the property and shouted until 1 am. The room and service were so basic I'd give them no stars.

The location is great, with a lovely terrace and free parking right outside. My first stay went well, but the second was a complete failure, and I won't return. During that visit, a man in room number 10, who seemed to work for Pension Eva and had special keys, smoked indoors, stole food at least four times, left the door and fridge open, abandoned dishes in the kitchen and left broken glass on the floor. One day, after the cleaner had been in, half the food people had stored in one of the fridges was gone. We told Pension Eva's staff in Spanish that someone was smoking inside and stealing from other guests, but they did very little. The internet was poor too.

Puerto we Morgan is a lovely, charming and peaceful place to visit. With so many very expensive hotels around, Pension Eva is a handy low-cost alternative. The accommodation is basic but clean. I stayed a week, and the towels were changed every third day, while the bedding wasn't changed during my stay. The shared showers were kept clean and pleasant, though you have to walk through the communal kitchen to reach them. A kettle, toaster, dishes and microwave are available. From the balcony, there are stunning views of the nearby mountain.

For the price, we were pleasantly surprised. After reading reviews, I expected it to be a lot worse, though the place wasn't bad at all. The road noise was my main worry, but I had a room with a window facing the main street and didn't have any sound problems. I also wondered if people would clash over the shared bathroom and kitchen, but during all seven days I never had to wait to use the bathroom. Our room door had a lock, too. The bed was so comfortable, with a memory foam mattress. I slept wonderfully, unlike at the hotel we stayed in last time, where the bed was rock hard and I was really uncomfortable. The terrace had lovely views. The room was cleaned, and the bathrooms were kept clean too. My only other complaints were the poor mobile signal because the building is so secluded, and the free WiFi, which was awful and extremely slow. Otherwise, I'd recommend it.
