The location makes this a hotel I’d gladly return to, especially for its peaceful, away-from-it-all setting. The room was clean, comfortable and reasonably well equipped. Bedside lighting wasn’t enough for reading, but I bring a clip-on book light, so that was fine. A couple more pillows would have helped; reception brought extras as soon as we asked, full marks for that.

I hated my three-night stay. Everything felt like a struggle. Toiletries and toilet paper weren’t replenished for the first two days, so I had to get them from the toilet near the spa. The TV didn’t work with the remote until it was eventually replaced, and the safe didn’t work either. The room was dark and uncomfortable, with an awful headboard, and there was no kettle. Breakfast was already sparse, and there was very little left for someone who avoids added sugar and processed meat. The pool and outdoor areas were extremely neglected: chairs had bird droppings on them, loungers were stained, and there were no cushions or towels in sight. If the hotel can’t maintain these areas or guests can’t use them, they shouldn’t be advertised at this time of year. I can’t believe this is a four-star hotel. One receptionist smelled strongly of cigarette smoke when she came to look at the TV problem, and the smell lingered after she left. Catalina, on the other hand, was informative and patient.
