Hotel Amic Horizonte

I’m writing this a few months after my stay so I could judge it with a bit of distance. I was there for a week at the end of September 2024, and three stars seems fair. Cleanliness was disappointing: there were hairs by the toilet in the bathroom when I arrived, and they stayed there for another 2-3 days even though housekeeping came daily. There was no complimentary water bottle or welcome amenity in the room, so I had to buy water from the vending machine at reception. The room was my biggest issue. I paid extra for the “Superior Double with Large Bed and Sea View” option listed on the website, but didn’t expect a Superior sea-view room to be on the 2nd floor, which feels more like the 1st because the ground and first floors are at the same level. The lift button says “2”, but the room is actually quite low. The balcony view of the sea and bay was very limited, and not what I’d expect from the room name. Maybe that was partly my expectation, but “Superior” suggests something different. I had dinner at the hotel restaurant once. It was decent, nothing special but not bad, and there are plenty of very good restaurants nearby. Reception told me there was no hotel parking. I still found free spots in the area every day. If none are available, a nearby mall has long-term parking for around €20 for 10 hours, which is a safe backup.

We stayed two nights with a friend. I’d booked and paid for two twin beds, but got one queen bed and a twin tucked into the corner. I know hotels can overbook some room types, but nobody told me about the change, and it wasn’t what I paid for. The wall beside the twin bed was dirty and stained, and the balcony looked like it hadn’t been cleaned. The walk to and from the city center is up a very steep hill. Front desk service was good overall, and they called me a taxi to the airport in the morning. Because our room was in the next building, we had to go outside, down a flight of stairs and past the restaurant. The restaurant was closed and all the lights were off, making it really hard to see the stairs or where we were going. I’d give the experience 3/5. The hotel wasn’t exactly bad, but it wasn’t great either.

We had a wonderful vacation here. The hotel sits between the sea and the beach, and the port is an easy walk away, which was handy for our ferry trip. We were on a high floor with a truly amazing view of the port. Breakfast was excellent and offered lots of variety. The rooftop terrace was lovely, and we especially enjoyed the warm pool with massage jets and plenty of sunbeds. I’d absolutely recommend the hotel and would gladly come back.

What we found didn’t match the photos, and there was no view like the one shown. The duvets were even worse, with no covers and yellow stains. When we asked for covers, staff said this was normal. That attitude was unacceptable. Cleanliness and basic comfort are the minimum a hotel should provide, and unfortunately this stay was spoiled. I can’t recommend the place.
