The beach, shops, and restaurants are about a ten-minute walk away. Great location.
The costs are outrageous for a very basic apartment in Peñíscola, nearly €300 a day. Even the garage and air conditioning, although available in the apartment for your use, cost an extra €11 each per day. They didn't even give us the garage or elevator key, so hauling bags up the ramp was a real nuisance. The agency was terrible to deal with, taking ages to reply and not resolving things. Check-in at 5:00 PM and checkout at 10:00 AM means they take 7 hours out of your stay, supposedly for cleaning, though I don't believe they need all that time. Want to leave at 2:00 PM, still within your check-in time? That's another fee. They're just trying to squeeze more money out of you. This is unsustainable and outrageously expensive.
A complete disaster, and I wouldn't recommend it at all. The building's main door is always broken, and there are lots of inconsiderate tenants. You can't use the pool, even though one has been installed, and air conditioning costs extra. People are constantly moving around the garage dealing in counterfeit goods. At night there's a lot of noise when those tenants return, and some apartments have more than 10 people staying in them. It's grounds for a complaint.
There is a real sense of insecurity here. The community has constant vandalism, broken entrance doors, a filthy stairwell, foul smells, and ongoing noise from tenants subletting their apartments. The Civil Guard made several arrests this summer of people renting here for illegal street vending. Residents don't have pool access because they haven't paid their community fees. I absolutely don't recommend this place.
Juan is a simple, friendly man who's almost become a friend, even though I barely speak Spanish. We've rented an apartment here for several years and get together with family and friends. It has three bedrooms, a dining room, living room, kitchen, utility room, a bathroom with a toilet and shower, and a separate toilet. The balcony has a good orientation, and there's secure parking and an elevator.
