Pension Valcarce

After arriving worn out from a 90km bike ride, the room was excellent value. It was clean and fully equipped, and they let us keep the bicycle in a secure, locked room. Carlos, the owner, was friendly and professional.

We came across this place by chance during a trip to explore El Bierzo 15 days ago, in freezing weather. Inside, it was warm and spotlessly clean, and the service was exceptional. They also helped us discover more than just the local fish bones. Very affordable, and absolutely recommended. We’ll be back.

The renovation makes the place feel really welcoming. Our room was roomy, comfortable, and very clean, and the location made it easy to get everywhere. Parking was no trouble either. The staff were lovely, and we’ll definitely come back.

I’m only here for two days of work, and now I may have to sleep in my car until tomorrow because I can’t afford a hotel. I’d booked a room by phone, then called three hours before arrival to say I’d be a little late. They told me the reservation hadn’t been recorded and there was no room for me. I don’t know whether the girl who took my booking was staff or a family member. I hope the hostel owners never get treated this way when they’re away on vacation. What goes around comes around.
