Hotel Marte

The good parts were the location and the quiet nights. You’re close to the main bus station, all the restaurants and the city centre, and the roof terrace is nice. It was also handy to have a smart TV. At night it’s very quiet because the window doesn’t face the street. I booked the cheapest room and expected lower quality, but mine looked onto a wall about 2 metres away and smelled musty. Staff prepared food and cleaned below the window, making a lot of noise from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m. One kitchen worker whistled constantly every day, which was really unpleasant. Breakfast wasn’t good quality either: the pastries were old and hard, the food oily and the bananas brown.

Hotel Marte was great value. The location worked well for Loro Parque, and there’s a spacious parking area near the sea about five minutes from the hotel. Our rooms were cleaned daily, even in peak season, and the food was very good, affordable and offered plenty of choice. The staff were THE BEST. The friendly guy at the desk helped us so much with making the most of Tenerife, and the waiters were kind and helpful too. Booking the rooms on stayforlong and checking in were both very pleasant. RECOMMENDED!!!

The room was pretty good and the location wasn’t bad either, but the breakfast was the reason I’d come back after staying here a couple of years ago, and this time it was awful. The hot food was cold, the bacon was like plastic and I couldn’t cut it with a knife. The pastries tasted cheap. I wasn’t keen on the female receptionist either, she came across a bit harsh.

The location was the one good thing for us. The room plugs were so loose that we couldn’t charge our phones reliably. We bought new chargers thinking ours were broken, then realized the outlets were the problem. There’s no air conditioning, just a small standing fan that barely helped, and no ironing board in the room. I asked for one on the first day and was told to come back later. When I did, they said to check again after people checked out the next day. Eventually they told me they couldn’t guarantee one would be available, and I never got it. There was no kettle for tea or coffee either, a basic amenity I’d expect at this price. The hotel feels badly neglected. The rooms are extremely outdated, with dull decor, and the hallways are worse, with stained, worn carpets. Breakfast was disappointing too: stale-tasting pastries and rubbery eggs that didn’t seem fresh or well prepared. It fell far short of expectations. With some investment and better attention to guests’ needs, it could be decent, but in its current state I wouldn’t recommend it.
