Hotel Alavera De Los Baños

Angela at reception was so kind. She sorted out laundry service and helped us book a wine tasting in a nearby town, and Christian was lovely too. We appreciated the honesty bar and comfortable sitting area, and the patio off our bedroom was great. Breakfast staff were great as well, and we enjoyed eating there every morning. The hotel is quiet, down at the bottom of town, with free parking. We didn’t mind the steps up to the main road. We loved our stay.

The bed was comfortable, and the pool and garden were lovely. Breakfast was decent in size and taste, though nothing special. But the bathroom was terrible, even though the bedroom itself was OK. The shower was a tiny rhomboid, about 60 cm across at the widest and 45 cm at the narrowest, and the curtain kept tangling around me. I’m a compact 78 kg, and it still felt too small. There was also an eye-watering sewer smell from either the shower or sink drain. We reported it twice. The first attempt, putting a plug in the sink, barely helped; after the second, it was better but still not great. The hotel’s position at the bottom of the hill also wasn’t ideal. I saw plenty of people struggling to walk up to town. Unless you have a car and want the free parking, I wouldn’t recommend it. I really don’t know how it gets a 4.7 rating.

The lounge and its Honesty Bar were probably our favourite part. Hotel Alavera de Los Baños has a quiet spot at the foot of the hill, and free parking was a nice bonus. Staff were welcoming and very friendly. We really enjoyed staying here.

We booked on a whim because it was inexpensive, and ended up pleasantly surprised. The hotel is really cute, and the staff were super nice. Its location works well if you’re OK with a short walk up a steep hill.
