Posada La Fuentona de Ruente

La Fuentona and the river beside the inn have such a peaceful feel. The place almost makes you feel time has stopped. The inn is also ideally located for getting around this part of Cantabria, and the setting is wonderful. We spent five days there and had wonderful service from Santi and Ceci. They made us feel like part of their family. Santi did everything he could to make things easy, pointing us toward good routes and places to eat. The food at La Nogalea was wonderful, and there are cheese shops where you can buy the typical dessert and the Ruente bread cake. Ceci was charming and treated us in a special way. We'd gone hoping to win the Jubilee in Santo Toribio de Liébana. After several problems caused by road closures, we finally reached our goal on Saturday, February 24th. The breakfast was included and very complete, and the owners were attentive, sharing information about the area. Our room was spacious and comfortable, everything was clean, and the surroundings were quiet. Service was good too. Soundproofing is the weak spot, though the property plans to improve it.

I called to book a night for two using my "Life is Beautiful" gift box. The catalog I received listed this inn, along with its phone number. But when I called, they said they don't accept "Life is Beautiful," with no explanation for why the inn is included in the catalog. Bizarre. See you later.

The house and village were wonderful, and the location was fantastic. Everyone on staff was incredibly friendly. They also run La Nogalea downstairs, where the food was excellent. Too bad we couldn't stay longer!
