Itaca Salamanca by Soho Boutique Hotel

We got free street parking about a 15 minute walk away, since hotel parking can’t be reserved. We were in the top floor “cheap seats,” which I suppose explains the great value. The foyer and breakfast room were very nice, and our large, airy bedroom had comfortable single beds and a modern bathroom.

We booked a suite with two rooms and two WCs, but were given a double room instead, with a broken safe, for three people, which goes against the hotel’s policy. They waived the parking and dog charges as compensation. Breakfast was poor, and there were ants on the cheese and meat plates. Do not go there.

The location close to Plaza Mayor is the hotel's strongest point. It could use some updating to feel like a four-star place. The parking lift is very narrow, so take care going in.

The staff were warm and helpful, and the main square is an easy walk of about five minutes, even with children. The underground car lift is an unusual touch, though parking costs extra: €13.50 a day. For our one-night stay with two children, the room cost €125, plus €9 each for breakfast. At €90 including breakfast and parking, I might come back, but I wouldn't rate it four stars. The room felt worn and dated. The double bed was great, but the sofa bed was hard and uneven. The shower had several features, including back jets, a rain setting, lights and a sauna function, but they didn't work. There was also a bidet in the bathroom. Breakfast looked spread out to seem more generous, but there wasn't much choice or much food available.
