Las Arenas

The pillows were the main downside, too few and really lumpy. Otherwise, we had a good-sized room that was cleaned thoroughly, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed 11 nights on a cheap getaway. A water trolley comes around each week, so you can buy water there for very little instead of carrying it back from the shops. The shops are close, and the beach is a short walk away. I'd stay again for this kind of holiday.

Our room felt like a shoebox, under 500 sqft, so next time I'd look for somewhere larger. Still, the kitchen was fairly well equipped, which came in handy during our month-long stay. The hotel is in central Playa Del Ingles, about 5 minutes from the beach, and several bus routes serve the area, with a stop also around 5 minutes away. The immediate neighborhood seemed old and run-down and could use improvements.

There was plenty of space in the room and the beds were nice, and the beach is very close. The place is decent, though nothing special. Our room had no AC even though it was advertised, and the door wouldn't stay closed unless locked because of a loose screw. Reception was always occupied by a group of kids. If you want to sit by the hotel pool, don't expect to socialize unless you're Spanish.

The place is well located, with the beach and entertainment right nearby, and we still had a great time because PDI is brilliant. The pool was nice and the small restaurant was good value. But on day two, after we were initially impressed, we were told to move apartments so workers could fix a shower problem upstairs from our unit. We transferred all our things, then immediately noticed the shower door in the new apartment was hanging off. Reception said they'd fix it, but they never did, so we spent the rest of the holiday worried it might fall on one of us. Would we go back to Las Arenas? Probably not.
