Axel San Sebastián Hotel - Adults Only

PHONE STOLEN FROM ROOM!!!!! At first, we thought we'd had a wonderful few days away. The hotel was clean and comfortable, and the location was great. Then, after checkout, I realized my old phone had gone missing from inside my suitcase. I had brought two phones because my number was being transferred to a new one. Once I saw the new phone was ready, I switched off the old one, zipped it into my suitcase, and left it there in the room. After housekeeping came the first morning, I noticed the suitcase had moved but didn't think much of it. When we packed to go home, the phone wasn't there. Find My iPhone showed it had traveled from San Sebastián to Paris in a couple of days. We were rushing to the airport and couldn't report it to the police then. Trying to report a theft to San Sebastián police from outside the country is very difficult, so we contacted the hotel instead. The front desk's response has been dismissive. Several emails and calls went unanswered, and then I got an email saying they'd checked CCTV and housekeeping records and that I was the only person who entered my room during the stay. That left a very bitter taste. I'm 100% sure I didn't take the phone out of the room after putting it away in my suitcase for safekeeping. Somehow it ended up 500 miles away in Paris. I also didn't make my own bed, fold my clothes onto shelves, or clean the cups, but all of that was done daily. Housekeeping was incredibly thorough. I can't help wondering why. The hotel's denial that staff entered the room has made me very skeptical. Maybe you shouldn't leave important things in a hotel room unless they're locked up, but you don't expect your belongings to be taken from inside your suitcase. I can't see another explanation for what happened. I'm posting this to warn other guests. You'll be comfortable and in a prime location, provided you don't trust the staff with your personal belongings, even inside your suitcase. If someone from the hotel wants to contact me and properly resolve this, I'd appreciate it. The effort so far has barely been effort at all, which is very unsettling.
