Boutique Hotel Mendi Argia

The hotel is cute, tucked into the hills, but way too expensive. At $300 a night I'd expect better hospitality, a working coffee machine, and more space in the room. We chose it after seeing the Michelin review, but with so many cheaper places offering better service around here, I wouldn't recommend it.

The views and relaxed service made this stay worth it. Someone was always around when we needed anything, and there are lots of little corners around the grounds where you can sit with a quiet drink overlooking San Sebastián. The bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in, and the place feels like a generous house rather than a hotel. Getting there on foot or by public transport is difficult. We managed, but had to carry luggage, baby, and pram up several flights of very steep steps. There are taxi ranks in town, and reception can book a taxi whenever you need one.

Loved the view and the beautiful pool, which has a view you'll never forget. The parking at the bottom of the hill was a bit challenging. Our room was a little small but still perfect for our anniversary. The lobby staff were extremely professional and nice. The TV didn't work, though we only told them halfway through and after the stay. I don't like those half-glass showers. Other than that, perfecto! It's a short taxi ride into town.

I came away feeling rested in body and soul. The place is stylish, beautiful, and so peaceful, surrounded by greenery. Waking to birdsong in the morning felt magical. Breakfast was delicious, though at 20€ per person it isn't included in the room price. The atmosphere was friendly, and the staff were pleasant and helpful. I'd love to return.
